acces to liferaft in D40P

Post by Benno » Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:10 pm

Under the floor of the cockpit of our D40 performance - Belle Mare -, behind the wheel, there is a stowageroom for the liferaft.
We are still trying to find out how this room can be easy en fast accesed.
Does anybody has any experience with this?

Liferaft access

Post by SimonJohnson » Sun Mar 20, 2011 11:41 am

It seems to me that Dufour built the 40 before they finished designing the stern arrangment. I'm going to see if I can modify mine to try and make it possible to get the liferaft out. If the boarding ladder ansd aft stay weren't in the way it would be easier to get at the liferaft but I don't want to move the aft stay so I will probably fit rope handles to the swinging seat clips to make them easier to pull out in a hurry and then fit rope handles to one side of the liferaft cover section so that it can be lifted up. I don't know if this will work but I might improve things a bit.

40P liferaft access

Post by Marcel » Fri Jul 01, 2011 9:12 pm

A Plastimo 6 persons Transocean in a bag fits nicely under the floor behind the steering wheel. The raft can be pulled out with some strength at its handles by only tilting the floor panel.
It took us a while to figure this out, maybe this is how the liferaft storage is intended to be used? No good news if you want to store your existing fixed raft I suppose.

Have fair winds.....

liferaft locker D40P

Post by Benno » Mon Sep 03, 2018 12:05 pm

it is already a long time since we discussed the acces to the life raft locker.
I changed the pins for 'violin-pins'.
i tried it this weekend. by removing the violin-pin it's easy to remove the teak floor. then by pushing back the locker-cover it's easy to pick-out the life raft (6 persons plastimo).
all together 25 seconds to retrieve the life raft.
