IRC Rating

Post by Peter Richardson » Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:21 am

I will need an IRC rating when my boat is delivered in a few weeks but there seem to be a wide range of D34P ratings published in race results and it is hard to juge what the effect of claiming a roller headsail allowance is or using a bowspirit as well as a spinnaker pole. I have seen ratings from as low as .966 to as high as .996.

Does anyone have a rating and if so is it for a shallow/deep keel, standard/tall mast, roller allowance/no allowance, spinnaker, bowspirit etc. Also what weight have you claimed and has anyone had their weight checked?

In Holland the (it's from my sailmaker) has an IRC rating of 0.982 (in 2007) where she has a furling genua and spinnaker. She is not using a gennaker and has a standard mast.
Be aware that in 2008 this ship is replaced by a new one (D34 P) with the higher mast, the new rating I don't now yet.
